I meant to post this a earlier today, but apparently I used the wrong date for posting (oops?).
Anyway, last week I really started keeping track every day of things that happen – little things, big things, interesting things, trivial things, etc. – in my planner so I can start to look back on each day and see what stood out to me then.
Some major themes for the week:
- productivity. 6 days from Monday-Sunday I marked as productive, either at work or at home. Everything from meetings, to errands, to stuff around the house, to generally getting things done. For the first time in… awhile, I felt like I had a productive week. Did I get everything done that I wanted to? Of course not. But I got the majority done both at home and at work. I’m not entering into a new week with the thought of oh crap, I’m already so far behind and it’s only Monday. So hurrah for that.
- I spent a decent amount of quality time with Mike. Phones off, laptops off. A lot of it was just hanging out together on the couch. We cooked dinner together once. It was nice to just exist and relax together.
- Newtie had a great appointment at the vet. He’s got feline herpes (I’m not kidding), and in him it manifests in chronic sinus infections. I guess since our last appointment pre-COVID, an injectable antibiotic has been approved for use in cats with this problem. He’s already sounding, and looks like feeling, 1000% better. Maybe this is the beginning of the end of all of the snot all over the walls, blinds, and us.
- I got a budget figured out for us, and a system in place to actually make it work. Part of this is the Erin Condren petite budget book (more on this later), to help me keep track of everything on paper. We’re both committed to making this work and maximizing our money.
- RGB passed away. This resulted in the loss of a few friendships. See my last post for details. I’m totally okay with this. It hurts in the fact that these were people I considered close friends – family. But I’m glad to know who they really are now, and I don’t need that in my life.
- The Erin Condren petite system. So I’m not using the planners, as I already have my main planner, and I really don’t need another one. What I did pick up were the budget book, the wellness log, the goal setting planner, and the I Am Enough workbook. I’m hoping that I can use these four tools to really drill down on areas of my life that I feel that need work. Stay tuned for my thoughts on them after I use them for a few months.
- Lastly, there’s a lot of shuffling around going on at work – managers are moving all over the place. I saw one of our managers that’s moving for the last time this morning and he paid me a hell of a compliment – “I’ve seen a lot of FE managers in my years with this company, and I want you to know, you’re one of the good ones.” And then my store manager told me flat out that he couldn’t imagine trying to run this store without me. Aww shucks. But seriously, it felt good knowing that people recognize all of the work that I do and everything I’ve tried to learn since I’ve been there.
So that was my week. I’m going to try to do one of these at the end of every week (my weeks run Monday-Sunday just because that’s the way my planner runs so that’s the way that my brain runs).
