I thought we could dial it back from the seriousness for a brief moment and do a little post about vanity.
I’ll admit it, I’m a little neurotic about how I look, especially my hair. But I like looking good, and I put in the time to make it happen.
So here’s my top 5 beauty and hair tools (not products, but if people like this I’ll do one). I’m posting links, but I make no money off of any sales that happen due to this post.
- Tigi Bed Head Blow Out Freak
I was blessed (or cursed, depending on your point of view), with a lot of hair. It’s thick, currently long, and I never have the patience to blow dry it because it takes forever (even with the fancy ass Dyson dryer we got in a grab bag a few years ago). The worst part of the whole process is that I’d have to blow dry it, and then straighten it. This product, though, has been a godsend. It combines the two steps so at the end, if anything, I just have to go a quick once over with my straightener to finish it off.
On a normal day, I shower at night, let my hair dry overnight while I sleep, and then straighten it in the morning. But on my early mornings I tend to run a few minutes late (I like to sleep, what can I say), so being able to do the whole process at night, if I so chose, has made my life so much easier. If you’re so inclined, check it out on Ulta’s site here, or search for a better price on Amazon. It gets great review on Ulta’s website and from what I’ve read seems to stack up well against the Drybar version.
2. Drybar The Brush Crush Heated Straightening Brush
This straightening brush is my ultimate HG hair tool. I adore this thing. I’ve had it for over a year and it gets the most consistent workout of all of my tools. It straightens quickly, and leaves my hair nice and smooth and with a hell of a shine, which since having black hair for almost a year I’ve come to find is crucial so I don’t like I’ve had an inkpot dumped over my head. And it’s quick. Straightening my hair has always been a chore, but not since this one entered my life. It can handle larger sections of hair easily, has multiple heat settings, and can handle my weirdly textured hair. If you have wavy or curly hair or combination like I do, this straighter can handle whatever you throw at it. In the time that I’ve had it I’ve never had any kind of issue with it. It’s reliable.
It’s a little pricey, more than I would normally spend in something like this, but it’s worth it. Check it out here.
3. The hair shampoo brush
My favorite part of getting my hair done is getting it washed and getting a massage along with it. My stylist actually suggested this for my husband who has thinning hair as it helps loosen any buildup of product, oils, and even natural hormones from the scalp to promote growth. I ended up buying one for myself as well because it just feels damn good. They’re relatively cheap on Amazon, and you can get them in a variety of colors.
4. A plain old bath sponge
I don’t know about you, but I’m incredibly hard on shower poofies. Within a week it’s at least double the size it was when I bought it, and usually within a month it’s falling apart. And then I discovered this and I’m in love. It’s almost impossible to destroy, and it’s so basic it’s almost stupid basic. I can’t believe I didn’t think of trying something like this earlier. It’s just abrasive enough that you get the feel of exfoliation without it being too rough. Better yet, there’s no netting to get caught on a stray piercing (I’ve heard too many stories about nipple piercings being ripped because they got caught on a loofah). I’ve made converts out of a number of my friends. Seriously, you’re going to laugh when you see how basic this is. You can find all kinds on Amazon, like these.
5. Goody Ouchless Forever Elastic Hair Ties
Just about every woman, at some time in their life, ends up on the hunt for the perfect hair tie. I stumbled upon these by chance at Target almost a year ago, and I’ve only used three out of the whole pack. They last forever, they don’t come apart like those boring black hair ties that we’ve always used, and even a bit stretched out they have amazing hold. I can throw my hair up in a bun, wrap one of these suckers around it and it will not move all. day. long. This is another product that I’ve converted a few of my friends too after they saw that my hair didn’t move even running at the gym. They’re not kidding when they say they have 3x the life of a regular tie. They come in packs of 10, and you get can them at Target.
That’s it for me today, the only thing new I have to report is I had an appointment to get more work done on my tattoo yesterday and it looks amazing. I don’t know why I ever doubted him. I couldn’t be happier with it.
Stay safe, friends!
