Faves and Fails

Faves and Fails – July 2021

We’re getting toward the end of the month, so I wanted to go through some of my faves and fails from the last month. These are things that I’ve bought that I’ve either loved… or not.

New Phone Case, iPhone 12 Pro Max — I’ve never been super into florals, but I love this case. After almost a year mine was getting dingy and worn, so I went on the hunt for a new one. It’s protective, it’s sturdy, and it’s pretty. What more could you want from a case? It also came with a few screen protectors, which I haven’t tried yet. It’s a good value for the product.

Gold Bond Ultimate Overnight Deep Moisturizing Lotion – I’ve never been a big lotion person, even though I really could use it a lot of the time. This was recommended by Jessica Braun over on YouTube, so I figured I’d give it a shot. It’s got hyaluronic acid and melatonin in it, so it makes for a great night time lotion. I’m going to be honest – I don’t remember to use this every night as it’s not been part of my routine for very long, but when I do, my feet and hands are super soft in the morning. It’s lightly scented, but it’s not overpowering.

e.l.f. Ultimate Eyes Brush Collection – I know I’ve talked the last few weeks about going to the gym before work, which means that I’m often putting makeup on at the gym. I needed a cheap eye brush set, and this fit the bill. I was surprised at how much I like the brushes. I had figured at the price point they’d be rough and cheap feeling, but they’re really not. They work really well for the simple eye looks I do before going to work. I had purchased a few face brushes from e.l.f from Target (here, here, and here) for the same purpose, and I’m really happy with all of them. If you’re looking for brushes on a budget, you can’t go wrong with these.

I’m going to post these as a block. I bought a bunch of new gym stuff to replace things I had been using that either weren’t quite working, didn’t fit, or were old. Part of this was a reward for making and sticking to the commitment of going to the gym. These two shirts (1, 2), these leggings, this gym bag, and a new water bottle. I wanted to upgrade my gym stuff, and I’m quite pleased with all of these. I can fit everything I need into the gym bag; the tops are comfortable, cool, and stylish; the leggings stay up and are comfortable; and the water bottle is easy to use on the treadmill.

Not a lot of fails this month, and even then, they’re not really fails. They’re just kind of… meh,

Maybelline Color Strike Cream To Powder Eyeshadow Pen – These are a great idea in theory. For my makeup bag that I take to the gym real estate is at a premium, so I figured I’d give these a try. I got two colors – Rally and Flare. It’s not that they don’t work, because they do, they’re just not very pigmented. They’re slightly buildable, but I guess I just wanted more from them. I’m still going to use them, but I’m not as happy with them as I had wanted to be.

Expo 21 pack Dry Erase Markers, Fine, Vibrant Multicolor – These are… fine. But they’re anything but vibrant. The colors are muted and look washed out. I bought these because I needed some fine tips for my desk dry erase board. Some of the colors are hard to read they’re so light. Again, I wanted more. They’ll work, I guess, but the difference between the swatches on Target’s website and reality of use are two completely different things. I’m going to try turning them upside down in the cup they’re in and see if that helps at all. They were just a bit of a let down.

Let me know if you like these kinds of posts. I make no money off of anything linked here. Just some of my impressions on things that I bought this month.
