Week in review – 11.21.2021

Welcome to hell week, otherwise known as Thanksgiving week. I just keep telling myself that at least there’s only 12 days until I’m done, counting today, realistically it’s 9 working days. Either way, I’ll have three days off between now and my last day. Tomorrow is my physical and blood work, and then I’m just about done with all of the pre-employment stuff. It’s getting real.

My boss has, surprisingly, been pretty good about the whole thing. I expected to be working a lot of closes, getting the crap jobs that no one wants to do, things like that. But things have been pretty normal. This is especially surprising as I heard that our regional said that she’s not sending anyone to replace me. So I’m leaving weeks before Christmas, and they’re going to have to roll with what they have. That should be interesting.

This last week was about getting stuff done. Stuff around the house, stuff at work, stuff for the new job, etc. The next few days are going to be crazy busy. With the holiday being in four days, we’re going to be crazy busy at work. Crazy busy. I’m not looking forward to it. But I keep telling myself that hopefully this is it – my last holiday in retail. Hopefully. Hopefully this new job will launch a career path that will, over the years, take me to new heights.

For the last ten years I’ve done a fair share of bouncing around – first in science: research, biotech, healthcare nonprofit, and then into retail management. And now back to healthcare, but in an office setting. Hopefully this is the final bounce. I’m almost 40 – it really is time to settle down into a career that I can work in for the next 20 years. I want to settle down. I really do. I want to stop switching fields. I want to stop feeling like I have to switch fields just to get ahead. I want a normal schedule. I want stability. I want to stop working jobs – I want a career. And I think this is going to put me on that path.

I’m going to leave it there for today. I hope everyone has a great week. I don’t know how much I’ll be able to post until after Thursday, just because I’m going to be exhausted by the time I get home from work, so if I don’t see you before then, to all of the Americans – have a great Thanksgiving! And to the non-Americans – have a great week!
